Choosing an Attorney

You should choose your attorney based upon your ability to work with the attorney and the attorney's skill and knowledge in the area that you require assistance. As with doctors, some attorneys specialize and some are general practitioners. Specialists generally cost more than general practitioners. Therefore, you should meet with a general practitioner and that attorney can assist refer you to specialists if necessary. Specialists may be cheaper in the long run for complicated legal matters. Generally it is difficult to develop a working relationship with an attorney without actually meeting with the attorney. Most attorneys will meet with you free for the initial consultation at which time you and the attorney will decide whether to establish an attorney-client relationship.
